Thank goodness HTC is still with us, for I haven’t enjoyed using an Android more all year than its flagship U11. This was a surprise. But I used one for three weeks as a primary phone, and this is what I found.
From the front the U11 boasts a fairly generic, staid design that doesn’t hint at its two gimmicks. If “this year’s look” for flagships takes its cue from a narrow, elongated 18:9 display, this is 16:9 old school. From the spec sheet it looks generic flagship too. Back when the HTC U11 was announced in Taiwan, I went up close and personal with all the colors and while all look amazing in their own way, the one that stood out the most was the unique Solar Red. The best colors are usually worth the wait and the Solar Red edition only made it to market a few weeks ago.
Red smartphones aren’t new but the unique [...]

Alongside the crowd-pleasing 3310 however, Nokia’s new brand owner HMD Global also unveiled the Nokia 3, a brave attempt to re-enter the furiously competitive low-priced smartphone market armed with little more than a throwback design and a pared-back Android experience.
It is a challenge for any handset retailing at Dh499, the starting price for the Nokia 3, to [...]
